What do health professionals say about writing in English when it’s not their first language?

Daniela is a pharmacist from Germany and writes a newsletter in English to her pharmacy clients.

  1. How do you feel about writing in English?
    I love English but it’s sometimes hard to express exactly what I mean.

  2. What’s the hardest thing about writing in English?
    I find it hard to hit the right tone in my writing. I want to be friendly and polite when I give helpful advice. I want to show that I care. But sometimes I’m probably too direct.

  3. How do you overcome this?
    I write my draft and then my writing coach makes suggestions about how to say things more naturally and she also corrects my mistakes.

  4. What are your writing goals?
    I want to write my newsletter faster and sound more natural.

  5. What’s your advice for others who need to write in English?
    It helps that I can check with my writing coach. With her feedback, I feel I am finally making progress and writing what I really mean to help my clients.
