Louise is French with Portuguese heritage on her mother’s side. She recently retired and wants to spend more time in Portugal.

  1. How do you feel about learning Portuguese?
For me, Portuguese is summer holidays visiting my grandparents. I want to recapture those happy memories and also deepen my connections to my cousins.

  2. What’s the hardest thing about learning Portuguese?
Learning Spanish at school didn’t go well and learning English for work was very difficult for me. I think I’m not good at learning languages.

  3. How do you overcome this now?
Now it’s my decision to learn Portuguese. I want to do it. I’m motivated because it’s personal and I think this time it will be better.

  4. What are your goals?
I’m going to buy a holiday home in Portugal so I need the basics to deal with everyday life and to make new friends.

  5. What’s your advice for older people who want to learn a language?
If I can do it, anyone can do it! But seriously, having someone to guide and support me has helped a lot. I feel I’m making real progress at last.
