5 questions for a health professional about speaking in English

What do health pros say about speaking in English when it’s not their first language?

Bing is a doctor from China who needs to do an interview to move to the next level of surgical training.

  1. How do you feel about speaking in English?
It’s ok, but I know I could do better if I practised more. But I’m always so busy and tired.

  2. What’s the hardest thing about speaking in English?
Explaining procedures clearly to patients and not being so direct when speaking with colleagues.

  3. How do you overcome this?
I did an EPRO Express session and my coach recommended I slow down. We also practised interview questions and answers. My coach gave me feedback, which was very helpful.

  4. What are your speaking goals?
I need to do well in this interview. That means speaking fluently and correctly. And then, I want to speak in a more professional way.

  5. What’s your advice for others who need to speak in English?
I found the feedback from my coach very useful, so I think getting some help can make you progress faster.
