How to maintain your gains when you’re busy

Say you’ve been working abroad in an English-speaking country for a few years and now you’re back home.

Your new position at work is full-on.

Leaving you hardly any time for your family and friends, let alone language stuff.

But you love English and want to keep it going.

Or you don’t love English but for career reasons you have to keep it going.

Can you find 5 minutes a day?

Because in 5 minutes you can:

  • Do 3-2-1 speaking

  • Express write

  • Listen to a brief podcast

  • Play a word game like hangman, Wordle or boggle

  • Write a caption for a cartoon

Doing a short and simple task – a minimum viable action – most days will keep your English ticking over.

On days when my schedule is packed, I usually manage some express writing or a speedy game of solo Scrabble in French.

What can you do for 5 minutes?
