What do health professionals say about writing in English when it’s not their first language?

Kazuo from Japan practises traditional Kampo medicine and has been invited to write some articles about his approach to healing.

  1. How do you feel about writing in English?
My writing is not good. I have not written properly in English for a long time.

  2. What’s the hardest thing about writing in English?
I have to explain my ideas clearly so people will understand.

  3. How do you overcome this?
First I write the idea like when I talk to a patient. Then I change it into better language for reading. But it takes a long time.

  4. What are your writing goals?
After writing these articles, maybe I could start a blog in English.

  5. What’s your advice for others who need to write in English?
I found someone to help me with writing in English. My English coach and I work on my articles together. She tells me why I can’t say it like that and we improve it. When something is not clear, I explain it to her and she writes it for me. This is a good way for me to learn. After 4 weeks it’s now easier to write in English.
