Sabine is a therapist from Germany who lives in a university town. More and more foreign students are coming to her for therapy sessions, so she needs to brush up (improve) her English communication skills.
- How do you feel about writing in English?
I like it when I have time to do it slowly, but often I don’t have enough time.
- What’s the hardest thing about writing in English?
To say exactly what I mean and say it correctly.
- How do you overcome this?
I find active copying very useful. I think it helps me write more natural English. Plus it only takes 10 minutes, so I try to do it as often as possible.
- What are your writing goals?
I need to write emails that are more clear and I need to write faster. I also want to make some flyers in English to market my therapy practice.
- What’s your advice for others who need to write in English?
For me, my regular meetings with my English coach are the best way to improve. She explains my mistakes and she suggests how to say it better in English, not just for writing but also speaking. Her feedback and advice help me a lot.
